Veterans' Affairs Education Benefits

Academy of Art University is authorized by the Department of Veterans Affairs to certify students enrolled in our degree programs for benefits under Chapter 30 (Montgomery G.I. Bill – Active Duty),Chapter 33 (Post 9/11 G.I. Bill – Active Duty and the Fry Scholarship),Chapter 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation), Chapter 35 (Veteran’s Spouses or Dependents), Chapter 1606 (Selected Reserve), and Chapter 1607 (Reserve Educational Assistance Program). Eligibility and chapter is determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs (888-442-4551).

How to activate benefits at Academy of Art University:

  1. Apply for admission to Academy of Art University online or call 800.544.2787.
  2. Verify eligibility and Chapter by visiting VA Educational Benefits Website and/or calling the Veteran Educational Benefit Office at 888.442.4551.
  3. *** If you do not meet any of the above Chapters, but feel that you are eligible for VA benefits, please contact VA (888.442.4551) for other available chapters.***
  4. Complete an application for VA Education Benefits:
  5. Provide a copy of VA Form DD-214 if applicable.
  6. Provide official transcripts from previous college(s) attended.
  7. Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility to the VA Certifying Official via fax (415.618.6273) or email (VA@academyart.edu). Be sure to indicate which semester you would like our office to activate your benefits.

Tuition Assistance (TA)

MyCAA: The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts Program
A career development and employment assistance program sponsored by the Department of Defense (DoD). MyCAA provides a maximum of $4,000 with an annual fiscal year cap of $2,000 to assist military spouses who need professional credentials to meet their Portal Career goals. Vocational Rehabilitation (Chapter 31)
Eligibility is determined by your local Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. If eligible, please submit your VA Form 28-1905 to the VA Certifying Official via fax (415.618.6273) or email (VA@academyart.edu).

Payments
Make sure that you register for your courses on time to ensure prompt certification of your enrollment. Information about qualifying pay rate and payment dates is available only through direct contact between the student and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Visit Rate Tables or call 888.442.4551 for payment information.

Please note that payments (except Chapter 33) are sent directly to you. Payments are sent to students after the month. For example, February’s benefits will be received in March and March’s benefits will be received in April.

Your payment rates are based on your enrollment status.

Direct Deposit
Direct deposit is available for MGIB-Active Duty, Selected Reserve and REAP benefits. You can contact the direct deposit center at 877.838.2778 or speak with an Education Case Manager at 888.GIBILL1 (888.442.4551). You can also visit the WAVE application to sign up for direct deposit using the direct deposit form. The WAVE application is available at https://www.gibill.va.gov/wave. Direct Deposit is not available for all Chapters.

Entitlement to Benefits
This school certifies your enrollment status, programs and academic progress. All questions concerning payment are to be referred to the Department of Veterans' Affairs at 888.442.4551 or by sending an electronic inquiry by going to www.gibill.va.gov, select Support, select Submit A Question. You are required to create an account.

Certifying Officials
The Certifying Official for Academy of Art University is responsible for the accurate and prompt certification of enrollments and changes in enrollment of eligible students to the VA. The certifying official is an employee of Academy of Art University, not the VA. The certifying official cannot determine eligibility for VA Educational Benefits.
