Our Facilities

Academy of Art University maintains classrooms, galleries, lecture halls, theaters and studios located throughout the dynamic and diverse city of San Francisco, including heritage and historical structures that contribute to the energetic, creative fabric of the urban community. In addition to classes for the Art Teaching Credential program that will be conducted in these state-of-the-art facilities, some courses are offered online through the Academy's innovative digital instruction platform.

Location

Per the standards set for all California Teaching Credentials, fieldwork, observations and teaching in public school classrooms must be completed in Bay Area public schools in which Academy of Art University maintains a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Academy of Art University offers Teacher Candidates a unique urban campus experience and the opportunity to interact with a community of artists and designers in the city of San Francisco. Teacher Candidates will bring their pedagogical skills to life in this one-of-a-kind location.

Library

This is not your typical college library. Academy of Art University's Library provides state-of-the-art graphic and electronic resources tailored to support its art and design curriculum. The vast collection of art and design books, thousands of digital slides and the electronic resources catered to the art and design fields are just some of the things that make this library an artist's dream. At the Academy of Art University Library, students have access to an impressive print collection and visual resources all provided in a warm, welcoming atmosphere that encourages the exchange of ideas and facilitate student success.

The library's collection is focused on the visual and technical arts and houses over 50,000 volumes. The resources in the library include print and electronic materials. The library's periodical collection includes over 275 current subscriptions as well as an extensive collection of bound back issues that are of significant research value in the field of art and design. Our online resources include 18 databases that offer access to hundreds of thousands of full text articles, eBooks and digital images. Our digital image library (LUNA) houses over 250,000 digital images!

The Academy of Art Library has a long history of being a "no-shush" zone. Students are encouraged to work together to exchange ideas and inspiration. To facilitate this, we offer a vibrant atmosphere where artists can conduct visual research, collaborate, learn and create. The library maintains this synergistic environment with group study space, a 15-seat theater available for classes, clubs and directed study, and several visual resource areas where students can practice hands-on techniques learned in the classroom.
