Brock Drenth was born in Jamestown, North Dakota in 1981. His representational paintings explore subject matters ranging from the human figure to landscapes and still life. He implements techniques such as drawing and uses composition and color in order to evoke emotions. Drenth’s paintings are like an exchange between the artist, the subject and the viewer – a conversation about the underlying facets of the object under observation. For inspiration, Drenth looks to contemporary artist like Andrew Wyeth, Lucian Freud, and Wayne Thiebaud, and to past masters like Vilhelm Hammershoi, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas and many others. Drenth attended Academy of Art University, where he studied under Jung Han Kim, Craig Nelson, Tomutsu Takashima, Dean Larson, Baoping Chen, and Zhaoming Wu. He received his MFA degree from the Academy in 2011.
