Pre-College Programs
  • An experiential college-preparatory program
  • Designed to offer high school students college credit while exploring art & design
Classes offered:
  • Summer
  • Saturdays during Fall and Spring semesters
  • On campus and online

Program Mission
  • Students pursue art & design in a collaborative, professional community 
  • Exposes students and their families to career opportunities
  • Classes designed to build confidence and portfolios
Benefits of Pre-College
  • One unit of credit transferable only into BFA program for each course passed 
  • Must accumulate three units for one undergraduate class; maximum transfer of six units for two classes
  • Waiver of $100 application fee for students who begin their undergraduate program by the first major semester after high school graduation
  • Invitation to Pre-College Portfolio Review Day
Summer Portfolio Grant Scholarship
  • Merit-based tuition scholarship for summer semester following high school graduation. Full time students take two classes.  Students must register for both  summer and fall semesters to receive scholarship
  • Portfolio, typed letter of intent, and interview with admissions advisor to apply
  • Recipients are awarded between 25% and 100% of tuition
  • Pre-College students given preferential review and award
Pre-College Portfolio Review Day
  • Schedule an appointment to have work reviewed
  • Receive valuable feedback and recommendations for additional classes
  • Incoming juniors and seniors can complete their Summer Portfolio Grant applications
Eligibility Requirements
  • Open to all high school students 
  • Must be proficient in English
Curriculum
  • Over 40 classes in all 12 undergraduate majors
  • Designed to accommodate all educational and artistic backgrounds
  • Students will build new skills, strong portfolio pieces, and confidence
Program Costs
  • All classes tuition free. Early application is recommended.
  • Non-refundable/non-transferable $235 registration fee for Fall or Spring semester
  • Non-refundable/non-transferable $525 registration fee for Summer semester
  • Students are responsible for the cost of required supplies

Class Supplies
  • Cost of supplies varies by class – estimated costs are in course descriptions 
  • Supply lists for classes in registration packages
  • Must obtain prior to the start of classes
  • Supplies can also be purchased here
Transportation
Most buildings are serviced by free, private AAU shuttles
