Jewelry & Metal Arts students begin their professional careers on day one. Starting with first semester class projects, they will begin to develop jewelry and metal art designs and technical skills to help realize their personal concepts. As students advance through the Jewelry & Metal Arts degree program, they develop professional portfolios that each expresses a unique vision.

Spring Show – With an exhibition of fresh and original work, Academy of Art University's Spring Show draws crowds of industry professionals each year. Students showcase their best work that demonstrates their creativity and skills. Past jurors have included Michael Holmes and Elizabeth Shypert from Velvet da Vinci Gallery.
Collaboration with the School of Fashion & Fashion Shows – As the first fashion design university to be invited to show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, Academy of Art University offers Jewelry & Metal Arts students the chance to gain priceless exposure for their collaborations with fashion designers. Fashion students present collections in New York each Spring and Fall. In addition, the Academy hosts its Graduation Fashion Show in San Francisco each Spring, attracting crowds of fashion icons.
Career & Entrepreneurial Services – Students prepare for entry into the professional work force by taking advantage of the Career & Entrepreneurial Development department’s onsite and online workshops. See more.
Topics include: Job Search Strategies, Resumes & Cover Letters, Entrepreneurship: Starting Your Own Business, Networking & Interviewing Techniques.
In addition, online office hours and career service chats offer opportunities for students to get individual career counseling, advice on resume and interview expectations, portfolio tips, hiring standards, industry trends and networking techniques.
All registered students, graduates, and alumni have access to the daily updated job board, where companies post internships, freelance, full time and part time positions.
Industry Relationships & Events – Throughout each semester, the School of Jewelry & Metal Arts participates in industry events and brings respected professionals in the industry to campus. Students benefit from lectures and special events. Past lectures have included the Jewels of the Duchess of Windsor (in collaboration with the Organization of Jewelry Historians), Andy Cooperman, Harriete Estel Berman, and more.
