Distinguished Alumni Awards
Academy of Art University graduates Robert Angelo, a vice president with NBC Digital Entertainment, and Diego Galtieri, an award-winning visual effects compositor, were presented Distinguished Alumni Awards on December 9 at the Academy’s winter commencement in San Francisco. Academy President Elisa Stephens recognized Robert and Diego, both of whom are also winners of Emmy Awards.
“Each year the Academy is proud to recognize outstanding alumni for their contributions to art and design,” said Stephens during the ceremony at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. “The Distinguished Alumni Award is awarded to these two alumni for their leadership, integrity, success and significant commitment to creative excellence and innovation.”
Robert Angelo, School of Web Design + New Media, BFA 2000
As vice president of Product and Production for NBC Digital Entertainment, Robert supports the network’s digital strategy. He and his team oversee product development, web-based and mobile platforms, and video on demand, as well as social and interactive television technologies. He works closely with sales, marketing, network executives, show producers and third-party content providers to maintain and expand the wealth of original content both on NBC.com and multiple digital platforms. During his tenure at NBC Digital, he has worked on award winning interactive experiences for shows such as The Voice, Jimmy Fallon and Saturday Night Live.
In addition, Robert produces weekly original online segments of Jay Leno’s Garage for JayLenosGarage.com. The site also includes the Your Garage social network for fans to share their car stories and photos. Jay Leno’s Garage received a 2010 Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class Short-Form Nonfiction Program.
Robert started his career at Quokka Sports, building websites for the Sydney and Salt Lake Olympic Games. He transitioned that experience to the Disney Interactive Group as lead producer on the gaming and learning platform DisneyBlast before joining NBC. A California native, he resides in Sherman Oaks, CA, with his wife, son and two dogs.
Diego Galtieri, School of Animation & Visual Effects, BFA 2003
Diego Galtieri is a visual effects compositor currently working for Stargate Studios in South Pasadena, CA. He was born in Argentina in 1968, and at a very young age started making his own movies and visual effects. Since graduating from the Academy, he has worked on many popular TV series and movies. In 2009 he was awarded an Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series for his work on the TV series Heroes. See a report about his Emmy-winning work on Heroes here. President Stephens also awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters to Eugene Daub, a fine art sculptor and former member of the Academy faculty, and recognized BFA valedictorian Kristina Rosa and MFA valedictorian Romanoos Mattonen.
