Academy Alum Rich Newey's work includes Christina Aguilera's "Car Wash"
Academy of Art University alumnus Rich Newey is quickly becoming one of the university’s
greatest success stories. Since graduating from the Academy, Rich has built an incredible career in
music videos. His work speaks for itself – the Bone Thugs N-Harmony video “Home” (which featured
Phil Collins), Christina Aguilera’s “Car Wash” (which featured Missy Elliott), The Kray Twins video
“What We Do” (which featured Twista, Lethel N and Gappy Ranks), and long-running MTV #1 hip-hop
video “Po’ Folks” by Nappy Roots – these are just samples of his star-studded projects.
Already regarded as one of the hottest, most talented directors in the music video business,
Rich is now going to leverage his success to break into the top of the commercial business. He has
recently signed for exclusive representation in commercials with The Joneses, an elite bi-coastal
company known to represent the best talent the industry has to offer. He comes into the commercial
business with some impressive work already under his belt; he has done a public service spot called
“Numbers” on the dangers of smoking for the children’s charitable organization Kids Count, and he
also won ADDY and Telly Awards for a spec spot for Fisher Price. His recent work includes a spot
for Midway Games promoting its title “L.A. Rush.” There is no telling what great things he is about
to move into, and the Academy is very proud to call Rich Newey one of its own.
Rich Newey speaks highly of the Academy of Art University,
crediting the
art school with surrounding him with the right people and the right resources he
needed to launch his career. “The Academy gave me the tools I needed and I met all the people I
still work with there,” says Newey, “and to this day I still work regularly with fellow students I
met as an undergraduate at the Academy.”
Rich Newey is part of the dynamic population of successful Academy alums in the Los Angeles
area. He and his fellow alums – who have all stayed in close contact since graduating from the
Academy – have all built impressive careers and continue to support each other in staying on top.
