Academy Job Posting Brings Television Exposure and High Profile Career to Mona Brooks
Imagine attending a university where your coursework is good enough to be used professionally
and published on national television. Now imagine attending a university that will help you make
that happen, all while you are a student.
School of Photography student Mona Brooks is
proof positive that Academy of Art University is exactly that type of place.
Mona is only one semester away from graduating, but she’s already got a portfolio and career of
which a professional would be proud. She used Academy of Art University’s Career Services
Department to launch herself onto the professional scene. In 2004, she answered a job posting on
the Academy’s Career Services website. It was for a fashion shoot for a couture designer Stacey
Estrella’s line of skirts. Like most recruiters who hire Academy students, Estrella was extremely
impressed by the professional, quality work that was done for her. Estrella Couture has used Mona
Brooks as their exclusive
fashion photographer ever since.
Mona’s work for Estrella Couture recently earned her national television exposure. The designer
used Mona’s images – all produced in Mona’s fashion photography course at the Academy – for the
open casting call for Project Runway 3. Estrella made it onto the show, and so did Mona’s
photography. Three of Mona’s images aired on Bravo TV when Estrella appeared on the show in July
2006.
The success that Mona Brooks has seen during her student days does not stop there. She has
interned with two professional photographers, as well as with In-Room Cityguide which is a part of
San Francisco Magazine. She has also been published twice this month in Le Monde, the largest
newspaper in Paris, as well as in Europa, the largest newspaper in Rome. She was also the main
photographer for an ebook released in July titled unconventional: Citizens, Focus, and Action. Now
that’s a transcript to be proud of.
