Academy Graduate Joins Prestigious International Design Firm
Academy of Art University School of Fashion graduates consistently impress the fashion world with
their design savvy and innovation. Academy graduate Bertrand Pellegrin continues in this
tradition with the announcement that he has joined the prestigious international design firm
Gensler as a senior retail strategist in retail and branding development. Already an
accomplished broadcast journalist, television producer, and brand marketing specialist; he brings a
unique perspective to Gensler’s projects.
Bertrand received a BA in sociology and anthropology from Lewis & Clark College. He
went on to get his MFA in fashion marketing and brand strategy from the world-renowned school of
fashion at Academy of Art University. His portfolio of recent projects for Gensler includes
The Seventy-Five Wine Company in St. Helena, Calif. and the Sands Resort in Cotai, Macau. He
previously served as Asia-Pacific director of marketing for luxury department store group Lane
Crawford (Hong Kong) Ltd. His luxury experience includes roles as a consultant for Louis
Vuitton (LVMH), Gucci, and Lotte Shopping Group in Korea.
“Bertrand Pellegrin’s success in brand development, marketing and strategy adds a key
dimension to Gensler’s portfolio of services, and he will collaborate closely with the firm’s
clients and global team of designers to help assure that our designs functionally and aesthetically
reflect clients’ cultures and enhance or grow their brands,” said Scott Dunlap, managing director
of Gensler’s San Francisco office.
The Academy’s fashion school offers students a cross disciplinary approach. With
classes on the core principles of fashion and fashion design as well as advanced topics on
merchandising, trend analysis and cross-cultural branding.
Bertrand, whose book “Branding the Man: How to Make Guys Buy” will be published in spring
2009, is based in San Francisco. He is a winner of multiple awards as a broadcast journalist,
including three Emmy awards for his work as a director and producer of documentary programs for
NBC. His career includes more than 15 years in luxury brand development, marketing, writing
and strategy for a diverse range of projects in the United States and Asia.
