Academy Now Offers Exciting MFA in Acting
The Acting department at the Academy of Art University continues
to improve and expand with the exciting addition of an Acting Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program,
launching Spring 2005.
Three new classes have been created under the careful supervision of Director Diane Baker.
Advanced Acting for Performance will prepare the actor through improvisation,
monologue and scene study towards performance of one act plays and one-page scenes for film and
theater.
Advanced Voice: Speech & Singing students will explore advanced level usage of
the spoken word for drama and perform exercises to prepare for musical performance in musical
theater productions (for film or stage).
Advanced Movement: Alexander Technique, Modern Dance & Mime will use advanced
Alexander Techniques and emphasize modern dance and mime.
These intensive classes assume a love, knowledge, and dedication to the craft of acting.
Admission to the MFA Acting program requires approval of an audition tape reviewed by Director
Diane Baker. She plans to apply the same high standards to MFA acting applicants as she does to
everything in her department. Interested applicants should contact Admissions at
1-800-544-ARTS, ext 2219 for submission requirements and to learn about guest
speakers, new classes, and expansions to the Acting program.
"I'm excited to be able to provide, for serious students of acting, a place to grow in the work
which they love," says Baker.
