Academy of Art University students from the Schools of Game Design and Animation & Visual Effects captured top honors in Blizzard Entertainment’s 2013 Student Art Contest. Game Design MFA graduate Daehi Kim and Game Design BFA candidate Kyoungche Kim won in the Environment category. Wanmin Gee, MFA candidate in Animation & Visual Effects, was runner up in the Character category.
Grand Prize-winning artwork by Daehi Kim
Blizzard Entertainment's University Relations and World of Warcraft teamed up to put out the call to college and university students to submit an original 3D environment or character piece that would fit in the World of Warcraft game. The response from the talented and eager student community was so overwhelming, but Academy of Art University’s student work came out on top with the most winners and honorable mentions.
Art by Kyoungche Kim also was awarded a Grand Prize.
Daehi Kim has found post-graduate success working at online gaming company Kixeye. Both Kyoungche Kim and Wanmin Gee aspire to intern at Blizzard Entertainment this summer and hope their contest wins give them a competitive edge. “It was like a dream,” says K. Kim of the experience. “Blizzard is a dream company.”
This art by Wanmin Gee was awarded Honorable Mention.
Peter Kyuyoung Lee, also from the Academy, was a winner in Blizzard’s 2012 Student Art Contest. The Academy’s Arthur Ramazanov was honorable mention.
