Alum Soyun Kim Wins Gold Medal for Design
Industrial Design School Alum Soyun Kim, who was featured in last month’s alumni newsletter, has
won yet another design award. Core77.com, the industrial design industry’s top blog, ran one
of its popular design competitions recently, challenging professionals to come up with a new design
for the Olympic Torch.
Our very own
Soyun Kim won the gold medal for her innovative design created at RKS Design, where she has worked
since her graduation from the Academy.
Soyun’s design allows each participating country to place a puzzle piece inside of the torch’s
shaft. In awarding her the top prize, Core77 called Soyun’s design “a symbol of participation and
community” and said that it represented “the ideals the Olympic games stand for.”
Go here to read all about the competition and Soyun’s winning entry. Our hearty
congratulations to Soyun for this distinction!
