Excitement and Celebration at Commencement 2007
In the heart of Civic
Center, eager students swarmed in front of the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium for the 2007 Academy of
Art University Commencement ceremony. Cameras flashed as smiling black-robed graduates huddled
together to photograph this triumphant day to remember. Reminiscent AAU senior Amber Franklin
stated, “I absolutely loved being in art school and being in San Francisco. I feel as if the two
complement each other so well.”
The auditorium was brimming
with tearfully proud parents and friends as students ceremoniously glided down the red carpet. The
live string trio played a powerful classical piece, adding classy ambiance to an already moving
ceremony. Kicking off the momentous occasion, Dr. Elisa Stephens declared to graduates, “Today is a
celebration of your successes, your accomplishments, and your triumphs. Today is a celebration of
all the hard work, passion and creativity you have brought to your endeavors here at the Academy.”
Highly accomplished Honorary
Doctorate Awardees Dan McCaw, William Russell, Jim Brown regaled the audiences with stories of
their own personal victories and imparted words of advice to the recent grads. The audience
listened attentively as MFA Valedictorian Michael Osborne advised students that “good enough is not
enough” and encouraged students to reach the greatest height possible for every pursuit.
BFA Valedictorian Carolina Tello Alvarado shared her own decision of going from pursuing
medicine to a degree in the arts. Outstanding Alumni Gioi Tran and Will Mosgrove were recognized
for the great strides they have made since graduating from Academy of Art University.
The grand finale was a victorious display of achievement when the fresh new graduates erupted
into cheers and whistles as Dr. Stephens congratulated the Class of 2007 and students tossed their
caps into the air, marking what is only the beginning of a magnificent journey to come.
