Executive Director of Fashion School Featured in European Exhibits this Summer
Gladys Perint-Palmer, Executive Director of the Academy of Art University School of Fashion, will
have her illustrations featured in several current or upcoming European exhibits and publications.
Gladys’ lively illustrations will be part of an upcoming 150th Anniversary Album for the
Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) in London. The V&A, one of the world’s foremost museums
of art and design, invited 150 leading designers, architects, photographers, fashion designers and
artists to contribute a page for the commemorative piece.
Three of Gladys’ illustrations were also included in the recently-published book 100 Years of
Fashion Illustration by Cally Blackman (Laurence King Publishing). This 384-page book is a visual
feast of 400 fashion illustration images from the past century. To coincide with book’s
publication, William Ling and the new Fashion Illustration Gallery (FIG) in London held an
exhibition of rare and precious drawings that included a select group of illustrators featured in
Blackman’s book. The selected drawings are featured alongside the work of Cecil Beaton, Manolo
Blahnik, Rene Bouche, Carl Erickson and Rene Gruau. This month, the exhibition moves to The Summer
Fair Olympia, an art and antiques event with close to 300 international exhibitors.
Printemps, a leading department store in Paris, will be exhibiting 31 of the fashion school’s
Executive Director’s original drawings as part of their summer event, “The French Fashion Touch.”
The event is designed to take the visiting tourist on an in-store tour of the best in contemporary
French culture. Gladys’ selected illustrations are of French fashion and personalities from her
years covering the Fashion Week shows in Paris. Also included are photographer Jean-Michel Berts,
upscale French cable channel Paris Première, La Belle Ecole, the first school in Europe to
specialize in French étiquette classes, and Alain Ducasse, the famous four-star French chef.
In addition to overseeing the Academy’s School of Fashion, Gladys is a writer and fashion
illustrator for many high-profile publications and fashion houses. She regularly contributes to
publications like the
London Sunday Times,
Talk Magazine, and
The New Yorker and does fashion illustration for clients
such as Christian Dior, Missoni and Versace.
