Industrial Design Grad Soyun Kim Designing in Hollywood
Academy alum Soyun Kim has a unique career in Hollywood -- an industrial designer. Since her
graduation, Soyun has been working for RKS Design, a company based in Los Angeles that specializes
in research and design for consumer electronics.
Well-known in Hollywood for its link to the music industry, RKS has built a solid reputation
for its custom designs of musical equipment such as guitars and speakers. RKS also does designs for
a wide array of consumer electronics.
Dot + Dot. Digital Media Hub for Nintendo. Digital Media
Hub serves as the primary home server connecting music, movies, games, data & the
internet.
Soyun came to the Academy of Art University from Korea, where she had already earned a
bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Soyun wanted a professional career in industrial
design. When she found that the Academy offered her the opportunity to receive the training she
needed, she enrolled in the Industrial Design Bachelor of Fine Art program.
While studying at the Academy Soyun worked in an internship for Luna Design and she
distinguished herself as a top student in her department. Her student projects, such as the digital
media hub for Nintendo, gained her immediate recognition in the department. Soyun studied
with Tom Matano and Tom Luedecke, and considers their teaching and mentorship to be a defining
factor in her career today.
