School of Advertising Invades LA
School of Advertising Co-Director Melinda Mettler recently returned from Los Angeles, where she
accompanied students on a whirlwind tour of top agencies. Eleven School of Advertising seniors were
flown by the Academy to Los Angeles for the LA Ad Club Career Day on October 22nd. Ms. Mettler and
students met with alumni Josh Esquibel of Kovel/Fuller, Christian Osmers of Ignited Minds and
Brandon Levin of RPA in the Nomad bar where they looked over the students' portfolios and talked
about working in LA.
Friday morning, all arose bright and early to trot down to the LA convention center for
beginning of the Career Day events. The students were taken on agency tours of Saatchi &
Saatchi, Deutch/LA, Grey/LA and TBWAChiat Day. At Chiat, the group met up with alumnus Mahmud
Hussain who is working on Nissian. After the presentation, which included the case study of the
iPod launch, Melinda and Nadia chatted with the head account planner on Apple. He was thrilled to
hear the Academy has an account planning emphasis and informed us that their internship program is
now open to planners. Nadia was later contacted by Brandon Levin about an opening for junior
planner at RPA.
