Academy Grads Make an Artistic Difference in the San Francisco Community

Melonie and Melorra Green were born just a minute apart 35 years ago in Memphis, TN,but decided to follow their dreams in San Francisco at Academy of Art University’s School of Motion Pictures & Television. The Greens are at the forefront of the latest movement to turn the Western Addition and Fillmore around, by emphasizing the arts. With the goal of cultivating and connecting with other artists in the Bay Area, the twins formed Infin8 Sync, an event and production company and later BYOA, or Bring Your Own Art, in which 30 to 40 artists showcase their work in one of the vacant spaces in the Fillmore. Two years later, they created Independent Artists' Week in San Francisco, an annual weeklong celebration in the Fillmore with art and music events. In 2010, they also introduced the Fillmore Art Walk, a one-day outdoor arts festival held quarterly. These Academy grads have drawn more people to the neighborhood though these events, and have helped put it back on the map as a center for art and culture.
