Academy Student Opens the Dancing Elephant Gallery

The Dancing Elephant Gallery, which opened October 1, 2012 in Baker City, OR, has a bit of everything: fine art, mosaics, textiles, metal work and even dioramas featuring the tiniest kitchen scenes you’ll ever see. Its owner, Academy of Art University student Amy VanGaasbeck, can also be found creating her art in the front window. She works in charcoal, oil, acrylics “and in the last couple years I’ve learned to sculpt,” said the Academy student. “I’ve been an artist since I was 3 years old, and always wanted a gallery,” said Amy, who is pursuing a degree online from the School of Fine Art. It’s been a dream long in the making. “I have over 30 artists represented,” Amy said. For November, the gallery will display “Autumn in Eastern Oregon,” a collaboration of several artists.
