School of Fashion BFA Graduate Shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
James Thai will be showing his collection at Lincoln Center during Academy of Art University’s School of Fashion 2013 Fall Collections at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. He first got a taste for fashion design through Academy of Art University’s Pre-College Art Experience Program for high school students. In this program, he won the San Ramon Valley Unified School District Art Competition before enrolling in the Academy’s School of Fashion undergraduate program with an emphasis in textile design. During the summer of 2011, he worked as a product development intern at Ralph Lauren in New York City, where his Creative Intern Project was selected for presentation to the company’s senior board members. James collaborated with Academy graduate Teresa Field, creating custom textiles for her collection. “I feel both shock and excitement. This is something that I’ve only dreamed about as a teenager and for it to actually happen feels a bit surreal,” said James. Watch Academy of Art University’s live stream of the fashion show on February 8, 2013 8PM (EST)/5PM (PST) at academyart.edu/fashionshow and join the conversation #aaufashion.
