School of Illustration Graduate Exhibits a Passion for Portraits
"I love to do portraits because each person has a different personality. No one's the same," said Academy of Art University graduate Zimou Tan, who mostly works in oils and charcoal. "You never get bored doing this kind of artwork. It's always a challenge." Zimou is participating in the 20th annual Marin Open Studios, on May 4, 5, 11 and 12. It wasn't until his third year of studying Illustration at Academy of Art University that he stumbled upon his passion - painting. "Tan brings the classically trained eye of a painter to the figure and the landscape with masterfully lush brushwork and exceptional use of color," says Charles S. Pyle, director of Academy of Art University's School of Illustration. "He embraces constant innovation using digital painting platforms to experiment and inform; and he excels at draftsmanship and visual storytelling."
