Urban Knights Crowned NCAA D-II Women’s Track Champions

In their first ever opportunity to even compete in the NCAA Division II postseason, Academy of Art University’s Women’s track & field program held off the competition during the last stretch of events and took home the NCAA Championship. The Urban Knights just became eligible for postseason play this year, and staved off perennial D-II powerhouses Grand Canyon (AZ), Lincoln (MO), and Grand Valley State (MI) to win the national meet. "Many things will be written about what we accomplished this weekend, everyone will have their own unique perspective on it," said Academy of Art University head coach Charles Ryan. "What happened in Birmingham this past week was about two things: these amazing artist-athletes and what their victory stands for in the greater landscape of academics and sports.”
