Academy of Art University Industrial Design Department Gets Green Light from Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance

On May 6, 2007, Academy of Art University’s Industrial Design automobile collection made a grand appearance at the Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance.  Since its inception in 1956, this classic car show has showcased some of the world’s most beautiful cars.

Academy of Art University has participated in this auspicious event on numerous occasions.  This year, Academy of Art University entered two automobiles from their private collection, one of which came second place in its class.  The entries included a 1938 Pierce-Arrow Convertible Coupe and a 1936 Packard, which are available for   viewing by appointment only for students.
Last year, the university also sponsored the first ever Owners’ Choice Trophy and award based on beauty of design, style, elegance, and desirability of the automobile.  Assistant Director of Industrial Design Hideki Masuda created this trophy in commemoration of the 50th anniversary.  This was the second year that the Owners’ Choice Trophy was granted.
