Academy of Art University Honors Bay Area Art Educators
On the evening of Saturday, June 9, the Academy of Art University thanked local
high school and community college art educators for their tireless efforts to inspire students at
the first-ever Making a Difference Reception.
Attendees nibbled on tasty hors d’oeuvres while drinking wine from French Rabbit, an
eco-friendly wine producer that recently collaborated with the Academy of Art University Graduate
Fashion department. Students and teachers from schools such as Berkeley High School and Leland High
School in San Jose browsed the impressive student work at the 601 Brannan galleries.
“A lot of these kids don’t know what resources they have,” commented Larry Decker, who came
as a guest of San Leandro High School teacher Audrey Brown. He said that the students often don’t
know how to utilize all of the tools available to them. |

Members of the Outreach Team welcomed teachers and their guests and
explained all of the resources the Academy of Art University offers. The real highlight of the
evening, however, was the raffle. A lucky teacher cheered as he won a one-night stay at the San
Francisco Marriott in Union Square. Others won gift certificates to Utrecht Art Supplies and
pondered over what they would purchase for their classes.

Teachers were given goodie bags full of supplies to bring back to their classrooms. One
teacher expressed his enthusiasm for the event as he picked up his goodie bag, “I loved it!”
