Academy of Art University Graphic Design Student Receives AIGA Scholarship
Jack Chung electrified the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) jury with his highly creative
and diverse work and won the prestigious 2007 AIGA San Francisco Enrichment Scholarship. This is
the second year in a row that an Academy of Art University student has won this esteemed award, and
the fourth time in the past eight years.
A jury of design professionals conducted the meticulous selection process. Though there were
many impressive entries, Jack’s work went above and beyond all of the others.
“Jack’s work stood out to the judges not only for being highly creative, but also for showing
a diversity of styles; skills which are very important in the design profession,” said Rob Duncan,
a jury member from the international design firm Pentagram.
The annual scholarship competition was developed to support and encourage diversity in
graphic design and provides an opportunity for students to enhance their educational experience
through special programs offered by accredited institutions. The $3,000 scholarship is a means for
the recipient to attend the design program of their choice.
In addition to this honor, Jack was invited to attend the selective Art Directors Club’s 2007
National Student Portfolio Review. The BFA Graphic Design student graduates this year, but is
already working at a San Francisco design firm, Dubberly Design Office.
“Jack is one of those special students who embraces every design challenge with his whole
being. The result is always spectacular,” said Mary Scott, Executive Director of the School of
Graphic Design.
Jack credits the Academy’s School of Graphic Design program and its encouraging instructors
for the development of his work and his achievements.
“I was surprised, excited and happy to have won. I was a bit sad also because I wanted my
friend to win because she does such amazing work. I am very thankful to God, my family, friends and
instructors, who have supported me,” he said.
