Our FacilitiesThe wide range of equipment and resources available to the student of
Photography at the Academy of Art University reflects the breadth of the curriculum that includes
traditional photography and digital photography technology.
Students begin their studies by building a strong foundation of conceptual and analytic
experience, complemented by learning effective technical skills. The School of Photography
facilities span four different buildings, all equipped with necessary items and resources for
student usage. The students have access to the equipment and studio/darkroom space that reflects
the needs of their curriculum. This includes state-of-the-art cameras, lighting and other studio
equipment, wet darkrooms, digital imaging/printing darkrooms, variety of equipment accessories, and
specialized working studios. We expect that students will attend AAU because the School of
Photography’s commitment to traditional ideas in photography applied with the latest technologies
in the industry.
Sutter: Darkroom and equipment (studio and location) issue
room, 10 studios, MFA darkrooms, BFA intermediate and upper-division darkrooms, digital printing
lab, classrooms, Full-time faculty and MFA Director offices.
Taylor: Darkroom issue room, BFA lower-division darkrooms,
classrooms and BFA Director offices.
Van Ness: One large studio subdivided with six movable
still life shooting bays, large cyclorama capable of full figure, large group shoots, and large
production and car shooting capabilities, studio equipment issue room, MFA and BFA upper division
digital printing lab.
New Montgomery: The digital photography darkrooms support
students in the BFA and MFA programs. They provide a professional level facility in the area of
photo digital imaging and portfolio production. Imaging, scanning and printing rooms, classrooms,
