Wendy McDermott earned her BA degree in English from California State University, Northridge and an MFA degree in Spatial Art from San Jose State University. She has also studied at Penland School, Arrowmont School, Meredith College and Chabot College. McDermott’s teaching experience includes Academy of Art University (since 2012), Contra Costa College, Richmond Art Center, The Crucible, Mission College, San Jose State University, Adobe Art Center, Ohlone College, as well as teaching assistantships at San Jose State University, Penland School, Meredith College and substitute teaching in the Castro Valley Unified School District. Her work has been exhibited in solo, group, and juried shows locally, nationally, and internationally. Her jewelry lines have been sold in over 65 galleries nationally. McDermott’s work has appeared in the 500 Book Series, Metalsmith Magazine, and Ornament Magazine. She and her two sons have recently launched a new line of fashion jewelry branded “Fearless Hearts Designs” whose business- model involves donating a percentage of the profits to support various non-profit organizations. Her fine art, limited edition and one-of-a-kind jewelry includes everything from sterling silver to 18 and 22k gold with set stones. McDermott’s sculptural work is comprised primarily of imagery related to motherhood and domesticity as she has been the mother of two incredible sons for 22 years – which she describes as her finest accomplishment.
