A native San Franciscan, Gordon Silveria completed his MFA in Sculpture at Academy of Art University in 2010, having earned his BFA from the Academy in 1992. Joining the faculty of the School of Illustration in 1994, Silveria held the position of Director of Illustration for 7 years, creating and maintaining the department's digital curriculum, while also serving as Acting Director of Graduate New Media and 2D Animation. Silveria also spent several years promoting Academy of Art University and its graduates throughout North America in his role as Director of Alumni and Industry Outreach.
Recently Silveria achieved great success spearheading the School of Illustration’s groundbreaking expansion into collaborative interactive mobile media publishing curriculum. In his new position, Silveria will continue supporting digital technologies for the Illustration program. Expanding his efforts to include the newly-created School of Jewelry & Metal Arts, Silveria will create and implement curriculum that incorporates and adapts digital industrial techniques for sculpture, including rapid prototyping and desktop 3D printing. Silveria is the illustrator for the bestselling children’s book The Greedy Triangle by Marilyn Burns. It is the most widely used math text in grammar schools everywhere.
