Summer Portfolio Grant

Summer Portfolio Grant Mission
  • Every year, the Academy of Art University awards over 300 Portfolio Grants to assist Undergraduate students to pursue their education in the industry of Art.
Eligibility Requirements
  • First-time enrolled at Academy of Art University as an undergraduate student.
  • Enrolled full-time (on-campus or online) for both Summer and Fall semesters.
    (Full-time Summer = two (2) classes / 6 units.  Full-time Fall = four (4) classes / 12 units)
  • Must be degree seeking. (AA, BA, BFA, 2nd degree BFA or Certificate program)
  • Recipient must be able to start degree in the Summer semester and be registered for Fall semester as grant will only be applied toward Fall semester classes.
  • Student must demonstrate successful completion of Summer semester for grant to be awarded to Fall semester.

    Previous Academy of Art University Pre-college Art Experience participants are encouraged to apply.
Award Information
  • A limited number of tuition grants* are available awarding 75%, 50%, or 25% toward total tuition cost of up to two (2) classes within the 4 required classes for the Fall Semester.  (Recipients are responsible for the difference in cost to meet the full tuition requirements.)
  • Recipients are responsible for all other costs & fees including: application & registration fee, lab fees, supplies, housing and any other costs & fees.
  • Grants are not transferable for any other semester nor redeemable for cash.

    * Grant award amounts subject to selecting committee approval.
Application Requirement Checklist
  • Complete the Academy of Art University Admissions Online Application at https://apply.academyart.edu/apply/login.htm with the $100 application fee. (Non-refundable)
  • Submit completed Portfolio Grant Questionnaire.
  • Submit your portfolio via the Pipeline process (PDF).
    Please note:  Portfolio should be a representation of your best work and demonstrate your inspiration and passion as an artist.  

    Portfolio must contain the following:
    • Minimum of 4-6 pieces of your work.
    • Sketches, drawings, photos, film reels, etc in digital format only.  Any and all physical work/samples will not be accepted.
  • Failure to complete application process in its entirety will result in automatic disqualification.
Application Deadline:  May 15, 2010 5:00 p.m. (PST)

Application Timelines
  • Applications accepted beginning January 1, 2010 through May 15, 2010 (5 p.m. PST).  Applying early strongly encouraged as grant availability is limited.
  • Upon completion of application process as outlined above, recipients will receive award status via email and regular mail within 10 business days of submission date. 
  • Upon receipt of award letter, recipient will have 10 business days to accept award.  Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of award to another recipient awaiting award.
Registration Timelines
  • Upon acceptance of grant, recipient will have 15 calendar days to register for Summer Classes (6 units).
  • Recipients must also register for Fall Classes (12 units) by the last day of registration date (see Academic Calendar). In order to receive the portion of funds allocated to Fall semester, the recipient must successfully complete 6 units of Summer classes.
  • Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of award.

  • Summer Portfolio Grant applicants are encouraged to apply for Federal Financial Aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Summer 2010 semester dates: June 21 – August 11, 2010.
  • Fall 2010 semester dates: September 2 – December 18, 2010.
