Portfolio Grant Description
The Portfolio Grant program is offered to all first-time Academy students who are enrolling in
two on campus or online classes (minimum) in our degree-seeking or certificate programs for Summer
Semester at the Academy of Art University. Recipients of the Portfolio Grant may enroll in regular
Summer Semester courses offered on campus or online.
Award Levels
A limited number of tuition grants are available awarding up to 100% of tuition costs.
Recipients are responsible for all fees, including application, registration, lab, supplies, room,
board, and any other expenses. Those receiving partial tuition grants are responsible for the
difference in cost to meet the full tuition requirements. Grants are not transferable or redeemable
for cash. Grant recipients may apply for Federal Financial Aid in conjunction with a Portfolio
Grant. Please be advised that applicants who want financial aid must complete a FAFSA Application,
which is available at
www.fafsa.ed.gov
Eligibility Requirements
This program is open to all interested first-time Academy students who meet the following
criteria:
- First-time Academy student (not previously enrolled in an earlier semester)
- Enrolling in two on-campus or online classes (6 units) for Summer and four classes (12 units)
for Fall. Grant only applies to 2 classes. Additional classes can be taken at recipient's
expense.
- Registering for both Summer and Fall semesters at time of acceptance of award.
- Degree seeking (AA, BFA, 2nd Degree BFA or 4 year Certificate program)
Prior Saturday Art Experience and Summer Art Experience participants are encouraged to apply.
Please note that all Academy students must be high school graduates.
Portfolio Requirements
Each portfolio should contain no more than eight pieces. Original artwork will not be accepted.
Send slides, photographs, compact discs, or VHS tapes only. No portfolio will be considered without
a fully completed application, including the $100 nonrefundable fee. We encourage you to submit
your portfolio digitally
here.
Application Requirements
In order to be considered for the Portfolio Grant, you will need to:
- Fill out the Academy Admissions application and pay the $100 fee (nonrefundable)
- Submit your portfolio of recent work (see requirements above)
- Submit a Letter of Intent stating why you have chosen the Academy of Art University

Deadline for Application: June 1, 2008
Early application is recommended, as grant availability is limited.
Deadline for Acceptance
If awarded, you will need to accept the grant and register for both Summer and Fall semesters
within one week of being notified that you have received the grant to remain eligible.

Campus Housing
Summer Campus Housing is available in Academy of Art University facilities located in downtown
San Francisco. A separate housing application is required; it can be found at www.academyart.edu or
requested by calling 1-800-544-2787 or 415-618-6335.
Portfolio Return
Students requesting to have their portfolio returned via US Mail must include a return envelope
with sufficient postage. Portfolios without return postage will be held for pickup at the
Admissions Department, 79 New Montgomery Street for one week following the start of Summer
Semester. The Academy will not be responsible for portfolios not claimed after June 30, 2007.
