Undergraduate Transfer Students

Transferring into Academy of Art University involves two easy steps:

1. Apply to Academy of Art University.
2. Submit your official college or university transcript in a sealed envelope to:

Transfer Credit for College-Level Coursework

Coursework from an accredited college or university that carries the same or similar credit and has been successfully completed with a minimum letter grade of “C” or above can be evaluated for transfer of credit to Academy of Art University.

Transcript Evaluation: To request the transfer of college-level coursework in the liberal arts, please submit your official transcript for review. Transcripts must be:

• Sealed and mailed to Academy of Art University by the issuing institution
• Submitted by the end of your first semester at Academy of Art University

International Transcript Evaluation: Transcripts issued by colleges or universities outside the United States must be translated and/or notarized by a certified educational credential evaluation service such as www.eres.com or www.wes.org (these agencies charge a fee and are not affiliated with Academy of Art University).

Unofficial Transcript Evaluation: To receive information on transferring your college-level coursework toward a degree at Academy of Art University, email your unofficial transcript to transferoffice@academyart.edu. Please include “Unofficial Transcript Review” in the subject line of your email and your name and major of interest at Academy of Art University.

Portfolio Evaluation: To request the transfer of college-level coursework in art and design toward your degree at Academy of Art University, please contact our Admissions Office at 800.544.2787 to learn about portfolio submissions.

Official transfer evaluations are based on the current transfer policies during the semester of admission and will be binding for the student’s entire career at Academy of Art University. Coursework completed at any other college or university after enrolling in a degree-seeking program at Academy of Art University is considered concurrent enrollment and will not be considered for transfer of credit.

Placement Exams and Waiver Options

Students can meet certain Liberal Arts requirements through placement exams and waiver options for Written Communication, Quantitative Literacy, Art History and Appreciation, Historical Awareness and Comparative Ideas & Influences. Learn More
