Pre-College Art Experience Programs

Get a head start on your creative future

Academy of Art University's Pre-College Programs are open to all current high school students proficient in English. Benefits of these innovative, hands-on programs include:

  • Introducing current high school students to life at a top art and design university.
  • Assisting current high school students in building a solid portfolio.
  • Offering current high school students college credit towards Academy of Art University for up to 2 undergraduate art elective classes (3 PCAE classes successfully completed with a grade “C” or higher = 1 undergraduate art elective class).
  • Exposing students and their families to career opportunities in various fields of art and design before enrolling as an undergraduate student.
  • $100 undergraduate application fee waived for participants attending Summer or Fall semester directly after graduation.
  • Current High School seniors graduating in 2014 will not be eligible for the Summer 2014 Pre-College Art Experience program but are welcome to apply to Undergraduate programs at that time.

Classes offered year-round online and on campus:

Program Costs

  • Pre-College Art Experience classes are tuition free.
  • All classes are offered on a first come, first served basis. Early application is recommended.
  • A Non-refundable/Non-transferrable processing fee applies:
    • Fall or Spring: $235.00. Students can take a maximum of two classes. One online and One on campus or two online. (All on campus classes run from 12:00pm-3:50pm, Saturdays).
    • Summer: $525.00. Students can take a maximum of four classes, either on campus or online.
Note: Students staying in Campus Housing must take four on campus classes (Only available in Summer). Additional fees apply. Please visit Campus Housing for more information.
  • Students are responsible for the cost of required supplies

Attendance Policy

Students are expected to attend all class meetings, arrive on time, stay through the entire class session, and participate in classroom discussions and activities. Three (3) or more absences will result in a final grade of “F”. Questions regarding the attendance policy may be directed to our Pre-Admissions office at 415.618.6206 or Questions regarding Campus Housing should be directed to the Housing office at 415.618.6335.

Adding/Dropping Classes

Students may change their schedule up to and including the first week of classes. Schedule changes received after the first week will not be accommodated.

Students are responsible for exchanging any supplies needed via Utrecht’s return policy.

  • Cost of supplies varies by class – estimated costs are in course descriptions
  • Must obtain prior to the start of classes
  • Supply lists can be found in the course descriptions
