Carrie Ann Plank works in both the mediums of printmaking and painting. Plank’s work is recognized in private and public collections including many major museums, universities and regional archives. Recent noteworthy showings include: Liu Haisu National Art Museum in Shanghai, China; the Mokuhanga Conference and the Yamazuki Gallery both located in Kyoto, Japan; the San Francisco Public Library; the Bankside Gallery, London; Georgetown College, Kentucky; Santa Rosa College, Santa Rosa, California; National Museum of Fine Art in Taipei, Taiwan, the Split Biennial of Graphic Art in Split, Croatia, as well as residencies in Italy, Costa Rica, and Vermont. Additionally, Plank is the Assistant Director for the School of Fine Art Printmaking both MFA and BFA at Academy of Art University. She is also a board member of the California Society of Printmakers. Plank describes this current body of work as a continuing series based on re-contextualizing information. In our current web-inflamed age, she finds a level of over-saturation with the availability of information and images. Plank experiments with reinterpreting found imagery with an aesthetic agenda. She utilizes the amazing beauty in charts, graphs and other visual detritus that accumulate. Plank’s goal is for this informational detritus to take on a new role based on new juxtapositions and context.
