3D Draping Workshop: Abstract Forms and the Body Workshop

Event Details

Join School of Fashion presents the interactive 2-hour 3D draping workshop with Rob Curry, Associate Director of 3D Design for School of Fashion at Academy of Art University on May 5th at 7pm (PDT).

Experimenting with ideas of reducing known garment shapes to their most basic forms, and shifting body positions away from their natural placements, in order to observe how the fabric reacts against these new placements, creating twisted, draped shapes on the body.

Student preparation:

Knit/Jersey/stretch fabrics work best with this idea of cutting/draping, so the students who wish to make forms alongside me can have a few yards of this handy. Rob will be making use of cut up pieces of old shirts too, so if you have an old shirt, or two, those can be useful too…but not essential, if you don’t have any.
