Academy of Art University’s School of Jewelry and Metal Arts (JEM) invites you to a fun, interactive, and free workshop on Tuesday, December 1, at 7 pm PST. Metalsmith and Online Coordinator for the Academy’s JEM Program, Karen Chesna, will show you how to make a sculptural filed bracelet using simple tools. She will also walk you through her home studio and answer your questions about how to build a career as a jewelry and metalsmithing artist.
For those interested in a career in jewelry and metal arts, this workshop is a fantastic opportunity to hear first-hand the various avenues that you can pursue and the skills you’ll need to make your passion a reality. We look forward to seeing you there.
Join and learn, no equipment or experience required.
A native of Chicago, Karen Chesna earned her MFA in Sculpture/Metals from the Academy of Art University, and holds a BA in the History of Art and Architecture, with a concentration in Indigenous Art, from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She spent many years working in the Anthropology Department of the Field Museum of Natural History and considers this a major influence on her sculptural jewelry, artist books, and small metal-based mixed media sculptures. Karen owns and operates Glacier Metal Arts Studio in Missoula, Montana, where she teaches metalsmithing to students of all skill levels.
