Since Academy of Art University’s art scholarships program was founded over forty years ago, we have helped over 45 thousand aspiring artists and designers pursue their educational goals in art and design. Academy of Art University offers a number of innovative and inexpensive ways for first-time students, high school students, and teachers to improve their skills and experience all that we have to offer.


Pre-College Programs

The Pre-College Art Experience Programs are programs that provide intensive art experiences for high school students. All high school students are invited to apply to take advantage of these full-tuition art scholarships (based on availability).

2015 Summer Portfolio Grant

Academy of Art University is thrilled to announce our 2015 Summer Portfolio Grant to assist you in pursuing your dreams in art and design! We invite all eligible students to apply.

Eligibility Requirements

  • New International Students – Contact International Admissions by phone at 415.274.2208 or by email at intladmissions@academyart.edu.
  • First-time enrolled at Academy of Art University as an undergraduate student. Previous Academy of Art University Pre-College Art Experience participants are encouraged to apply.
  • Must be Undergraduate degree-seeking (AA, AA2, BA, BFA, 2nd degree BFA). Personal Enrichment students, students earning a Certificate and Online Award of Completion students are not eligible for this Grant.
  • Must be US Citizen or Green Card holder
  • Enrolled full-time for Summer 2015 semester (6 units) by May 20, 2015 and must successfully earn a passing grade of C or better in both classes
  • Enrolled for at least 2 classes for Fall 2015 semester (6 units) by Fall 2015 semester registration deadline
  • If a credit balance exists due to a dropped course during the Fall 2015 semester it will be refunded back to the University portfolio grant program

Award Information

  • A limited number of tuition grants are available in the range from $1,000 to $5,000 to be applied to the recipient's Fall 2015 semester tuition costs.
  • The amount of each Grant awarded is determined by the selection committee based on portfolio and questionnaire submissions.
  • Recipients are responsible for application and registration fees. Any other costs or fees are the recipient's responsibility.
  • Grants are for the recipient only and are not transferrable for any other semester, nor redeemable for cash. Summer 2015 Portfolio Grant can only be applied to Fall 2015 semester tuition.

Application Requirement Checklist

  • Complete the Academy of Art University Admissions Online Application at https://apply.academyart.edu/apply/login.htm with the $100 non-refundable/non-deferrable application fee.
  • Submit completed Summer Portfolio Grant Questionnaire.
  • Submit your portfolio
    • Your Academy of Art University student ID number is required for Portfolio submission. Please contact Admissions if you do not have this required information available to you.
    • Please note: Portfolio should be a representation of your best work and demonstrate your inspiration and passion as an artist.
    • Portfolio must contain the following:
      • Minimum of 4 pieces of your work
      • Sketches, drawings, photos, film reels, etc., in digital format only. Any and all physical work/samples will not be accepted.
  • Failure to complete application process by set deadline of April 29, 2015, in its entirety will result in automatic and immediate disqualification.

Timeframes & Deadlines

  • Applications and all other requirements will be accepted until: April 29, 2015
    If applying via regular mail, application must be postmarked by this date.
    • Applying early is strongly encouraged.
  • May 4–8, 2015: Selected award recipients will be notified via regular mail and email. No decisions regarding awards will be made prior to this date.
  • May 20, 2015: Deadline for all award recipients to register for the Summer 2015 semester. All recipients must register for 6 units for Summer classes in order to be eligible for the Grant.
  • Recipients must also register for Fall 2015 semester in at least 2 classes (6 units) by September 19, 2015, last day of Fall 2015 semester registration date
  • Recipients who fail to earn a passing grade in the two (2) Summer 2015 semester classes (6 units), or fail to register for Fall 2015 classes in a timely manner will immediately forfeit their Grant in full.

2015 Spring Forward Grant

Submissions for the 2015 Spring Forward Grant are now closed. Selected award recipients will be notified January 19 - 23, 2015.

The Teacher Grant provides high school and community college art teachers an opportunity to practice and improve their skills. These full-tuition art scholarships apply toward any regular undergraduate course and are subject to limited availability.

  • Provide teachers & counselors the opportunity to refresh and expand their skills as well as tap into the creative community in San Francisco

Program Mission

Program provides a full tuition scholarship for a maximum of:

  • Three to six undergraduate course units for On-Campus (Summer Only)
  • Three undergraduate course units for Online (Fall/Spring Only)

Recipients are responsible for all other costs & fees including: application fee, registration fee, lab fees, supplies, room and board, transportation and any other expenses

Eligibility

  • Open to all: secondary school, community college teachers and counselors
  • Previous Teacher Grant Recipients are not eligible to apply. Grants are limited and it is the University’s mission to provide the opportunity to as many educators as possible.
  • All applicants must provide: copy of teaching certificate, resume, letter of intent, & recommendation letter from school principal, dean or department chairperson.

  • Campus housing is only available during the Summer program
  • A separate Housing Application must be completed online with Campus Housing or call 1-800-544-2787.
