For prospective BFA students who are interested in teaching in California public schools, the School of Art Education provides an opportunity to complete the BFA and California Credential Program in 5 years. Upon completion of the blended programs, student will have:

  • Developed an extensive Portfolio of both visual art and lesson plans for diverse audiences
  • Completed coursework in preparation to submit California Teaching Performance Assessment Tasks (CALTPAs)
  • Successfully completed a semester of supervised student teaching in a public school setting

Art Teaching Credential Program

For students who aim to teach in California public schools, the BFA/Credential blended curriculum prepares students for the CALTPA Assessments to receive a California teaching license. This blended program allows 4 undergraduate courses to count towards the credential: Overview of Art Education, Educational Psychology, Curriculum Development and Integration of Technology. With only two additional semesters past BFA, students can receive the Credential. (Non AAU BFU in Art Education can apply post B.B. to the 3 semester Credential Program.)
