Visual Communication for Game Designers

This course focuses on developing visual design and communication skills for video game designers. Topics include: wireframes, graphic design, UI/UX, basic sketching, and verbal presentation. Students use industry-standard digital tools and vocabulary to efficiently and accurately convey their game play ideas and create graphic presentations.

Visual Effects for Games 1

Want to make cool attacks and explosions? Start here! Visual effects (VFX) are a huge and exciting part of any game. You will learn to create amazing effects in a game engine, making you a valuable asset in the game industry.

Visual Effects for Games 2

Create real-time visual effect in game engines. You will build 3D effects for environments, props, vehicles, and (of course) character attacks. Fire! Smoke! Explosions!

Tambour Beading 1

Embroidery for haute couture. You will develop hands-on tambour beading techniques to complete projects that allow you to finish and mount beaded motifs to garments. Learn how the history of beading applies to fashion design.

Car and Motorcycle Design

This is an introduction to the fundamentals of car and motorcycle design. Students will gain the basic skills and concepts of the transportation design process. They will complete a car/motorcycle design project that will include a package drawing, concept sketches, renderings, and a final presentation layout.

Participatory Design

Participatory Design is key to creating equity. Working with residents and community, you will develop tools for collaborative decision-making that address the needs of diverse users by putting your communication techniques, design skills, and research methodologies into practice in a real-life project. (This course is cross-listed with ARH 512.)

3D Creature and Character Modeling

This course introduces students to form through digital sculpting. These techniques are used by 3D modelers in the animation, visual effects, video game, and toy industries. Students will explore the process of digitally sculpting a 3D character.

Collaborative Project B.Lab

Gain hands-on experience in community-based design and make a difference in a local neighborhood. Collaboratively design, prototype, and fabricate a real project. Develop valuable professional skills incorporating client feedback under real world conditions of budget and schedule.

Study Abroad – Illustration

Travel to inspirational locations to practice your craft and gather reference. You will then create quality illustrations based on environments, people, lifestyle, and customs unique to Italy.
