ACADEMY OF ART UNIVERSITY
Student Portrait Competition Participation Agreement and Parent Consent

Academy of Art University (“ArtU”) invites middle and high school students ages 13–18 to share their creativity through original portrait artwork depicting themselves or another person. Winners of the competition will have their artwork exhibited at ArtU’s Cannery Gallery in San Francisco and may choose to receive a faculty critique as an educational opportunity for constructive feedback and artistic growth.

Agreement to Participate: To enter, the participating student (“Student”) and their parent or legal guardian must review this agreement, and the parent or legal guardian must sign it. The signature of the parent or legal guardian binds the Student, the signing parent or legal guardian, and anyone asserting rights on behalf of or through the Student to the following terms. After ArtU receives the signed agreement, ArtU will send the parent or legal guardian a link to upload a photograph of the Student’s original portrait artwork (“Artwork”).

Originality: The Artwork is entirely the student’s own original work.

Permission from Student and Parent: ArtU may review and judge the Artwork. If selected as a winner, ArtU may exhibit the Artwork and use images of it, the Student’s name, and competition-related photographs of the Student on ArtU’s websites and social media and other promotional materials. No compensation will be paid for these uses.

Permission from the Portrait Subject: The Student and their parent or legal guardian affirm that the person depicted in the Artwork and, if under 18, that person’s parent or legal guardian have consented to the uses described in this agreement, if that person is known and reasonably accessible. ArtU may require proof of the portrait subject’s consent.

Judging: ArtU faculty will select the winners. Artistic judging decisions are final.

Delivery and Collection: Winners arrange delivery and collection of their Artwork according to ArtU’s instructions and deadlines.

Care of Artwork: The Student and their parent or legal guardian release ArtU and its employees and agents from claims for accidental loss or damage to the Artwork.
